Duke Asidere is one of Nigeria's most celebrated contemporary artists, with a keen following internationally and in his native Nigeria. He expresses himself boldly through a wide variety of mediums including pencil work, oil, acrylic, pastels and transparencies. Inspired by the everyday drama of the human lives around him, Asidere loves to use thick brush strokes to depict women and their invaluable role in society. His masterpieces offer a fresh perspective of Africa, carrying underlying political statements and infused by his use of colour and form. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting (1988) and a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting (1990), both from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria.
